Let me guess – you’re ready to launch your website, but the content writing part feels like walking through mud in stilettos… ?

You are not alone! Writing about yourself, your services, and what makes your business awesome can feel… well, kinda awful.

But here’s the truth – You can write clear, confident website content that connects with your dream clients, even if you don’t feel like a ‘writer.’

Why Does Writing Website Content Feel So Hard?

  • You’re too close to it – it’s hard to see your own magic.
  • You’re trying to sound “professional” – and end up sounding stiff or generic.
  • You don’t know what goes where – what actually needs to be on your Home page vs your Services page?
  • You’re not sure what your audience needs to hear – so you second-guess every sentence.

And when you’re DIY-ing your website, it’s all on you… which often means staring at a blank page, wishing someone would just hand you a done-for-you roadmap.

(spoiler alert: I have something to help with this!)

Tips to Help You Write Your Website Content with Confidence

Before you hit the download button on any templates or hire someone to “just do it for you,” it’s worth understanding a few foundational things that make content work for your website, not against it.

1. Start With the Structure

Don’t try to write your content in one go. Break it down into manageable chunks:

  • What’s the purpose of each page?
  • What action do you want your visitor to take?
  • What questions do they have – and how can you answer them quickly?

Start with the Home page (big picture), then move on to About, Services, and Contact.

2. Focus on the Reader First

This isn’t just about you, it’s about them. Instead of “I do this…” try flipping it to “Here’s how I help you…” Speak directly to your reader’s needs, struggles and goals.

A simple rule: every sentence should either build connection or encourage action.

3. Let Your Voice Shine Through

One of the biggest mistakes I see? Writing like a robot in a pantsuit. You don’t have to strip out your personality to sound credible.

Whether you’re quirky, warm, to-the-point or all heart, your website should sound like you. That’s what makes it memorable (and trustworthy).

4. Make It Scannable

Most people skim before they read, so:

  • Use short paragraphs
  • Add headings and bullet points
  • Highlight important bits
  • Keep it simple, not stuffy

5. Don’t Aim for Perfect, Aim for Progress

Done is better than perfect. You can (and should) tweak and refine over time, especially once your website is live and you start getting real feedback.
